Martha Washington's Choice Bedspread

$ 225.00

The Martha Washington’s Choice Bedspread is the most iconic terry bedspread ever produced by Bates. Released in 1940 under the name “George Washington’s Choice”, it was the first hobnail bedspread to ever be woven on a mechanical loom.

This vintage bedspread pattern is a replica of the handwoven candlewick bedspread that George Washington lovingly gave to his bride, Martha, on their wedding day.  It quickly became a household favorite and continues to be our number one seller today.

The steadfast favorite has been in continuous production for over 80 years and during that time has also been labeled “America’s First” and simply “George Washington”.

This is my second one and after looking everywhere and at lots of other options, I went back with the exact same bedspread!!

I just purchased a King size Martha Washington Bedspread. I've had a Queen spread for years, which is still just like new. We now have a King bed, so I ordered another. The Queen is still being used in the guest room and receives many compliments.
Great quality!

Beautiful & Practical!

I ordered the Martha Washington's Choice Bedspread in Antique. It is absolutely beautiful! Love the elegant fringe and lovely pattern. Completely satisfied! Most comforters or bedspreads tend to come in a full/queen size and do not adequately fit a queen size bed. Well, this bedspread has a generous foot and side drop which more than covers the sheets and blankets underneath. In addition, it can be machine washed & dried. How practical! Great to know that this preshrunk cotton spread was woven right here in the USA!

I ordered a Martha Washington's Choice bedspread to match the one I have that was my grandmother's. Hers is at least 75 years old. The new one from Bates Mill Store has the exact same pattern and feel to it that her's had. It is perfect. I imagine it, too, will still be in use 75 or more years from now.

Great Bed spread

Lucked out when I found out about Bates, you don't find Bedspreads like these in store's anymore. Remind me of the kind my mom had back in the 50's, with the beautiful design's woven in. I purchased one about three years ago, it's like brand new! And that's why im back for more! Their very well made and are truly a heavyweight Bedspread. Going to be trying out one of their Blankets for that reason.
