Description

The Martha Washington’s Choice Bedspread is the most iconic terry bedspread ever produced by Bates. Released in 1940 under the name “George Washington’s Choice”, it was the first hobnail bedspread to ever be woven on a mechanical loom. 

This vintage bedspread pattern is a replica of the handwoven candlewick bedspread that George Washington lovingly gave to his bride, Martha, on their wedding day.  It quickly became a household favorite and continues to be our number one seller today.

The steadfast favorite has been in continuous production for over 80 years and during that time has also been labeled “America’s First” and simply “George Washington”.

A Time Tested Classic

We love our Martha Washington bed spread. It is truly keeping us warm in our little mountain home here in Wrightwood, CA. Our last Martha Washington bed spread made it at least a couple of decades before replacing it recently. Your craftsmanship makes this product an heirloom to say the least! We even have this same bedspread (from your company) in our little cabin in the Big Santa Anita Canyon out here in the San Gabriel Mountains. Roadless and wild. I already have a king size and LOVE it! This queen size I ordered does not seem to be quite the same heavy thickness and it seems shorter on the sides. I expected more of a drop. Still love it, but its not as I expected.
