Herringbone Cotton Blanket

This is a nice weight: substantial but not too heavy, and large enough to be a bedspread.

I love my new blanket! I got the king size and there is plenty of extra to tuck in/ hang over the side of the bed. This is the perfect weight for me in the summer where I'm freezing when I go to bed (A/C), but wake up in the middle of the night sweaty (perimenopause). In the winter I'll add another one to the bed and be comfortable. Very happy with the purchase. I got the color Quartz, which is like a muted pinky/purple. It took about 5 weeks from order to delivery.

The queen sized herringbone cotton blanket we purchased is well made and good weight. We have been using Bate’s bedspreads and blankets we inherited from our parents who used them in the 1950s and they still look like new. You can’t beat Bates.

Heirloom quality blanket. This blanket is not only luxurious, it's well-made and a perfect medium weight. Quit buying cheap crap that you'll throw out in a couple years and spend a little extra to have something ten times better that will last! It will only cost you pennies a day to treat yourself to something really nice and also support a USA company. I didn't even mind waiting for my blanket to be made because when I received it, it was like getting a gift!

I was looking for a cotton blanket for summer, and had viewed a number of options from bigger retailers without being convinced. Bates Mill Store was recommended in a reddit thread I found, and I was so glad to see they had options with color (not just white or off-white).
When the blanket arrived, I was really impressed. It was well made, the hems were nicely stitched, and the visual effect of the weaving was great in person. I did have a bit of a concern that it might be too warm, since it seemed thick. The green was also less of a sage green and more of a kelly green. I went ahead and washed it anyway - there was a lot of fluff, as other reviewers have noted - and put it on my bed to try out.
The temperature was absolutely perfect! I get cold when going to sleep, and there was just enough warmth to warm me up again. I didn't wake up from overheating during the night, and in the morning I was pleasantly cozy, not hot.
I will say that the size is a bit big for my purposes - I use it on half of a queen bed (tall, with a thick mattress), and it comes to the floor on both sides. I think if you used it on a twin, where it could hang off of both sides, it would be ideal. That is just a minor quibble though, and overall I am really happy with it. If you are thinking about getting this blanket, I would highly recommend!
