After hearing so many fantastic stories from Bates customers, we decided to create a new blog series that would feature stories from Bates customers from around America (and in some cases, the world!). From multi-generational owners to proud supporters of American Manufacturing and even folks whose ancestors immigrated to the US to work in the Bates Mills, we’re excited to hear and share these fascinating stories of Bates customers. If you’d like to share your story, please shoot us an email: contact@batesmillstore.com.

Our first Bates Story features one of our lucky giveaway winners, Melanie Adair from Williamstown, Kentucky. Read her story and see her beautiful photos below:

1. What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Melanie. My husband, Tim, and I live in Williamstown, Kentucky.  My husband and I will be married for 34 years in May of 2014.  We praise God for what He has done in and through our marriage and consider ourselves to be blessed beyond measure. We have two married adult children, five grandchildren and a beautiful Coton de Tulear dog.  We are members of Grace Fellowship Church in Florence, Kentucky where we have the privilege and opportunity to serve our Lord Jesus Christ alongside our church family whom we love very much.

2. How did you first hear about Bates?

After we purchased handmade reproductions of cherry furniture from Gary Humphress & Sons in Campbellsville, Kentucky, we started looking for quality bedspreads to match our traditional décor.  Both my husband and I have an eye for quality work and an appreciation for those who have been gifted in this area of craftsmanship.  We found the Bates website and after viewing, we decided to make contact.  Hats off to Bob who offered the best customer service anyone could ever hope for.  He sent us samples, explained in detail how to measure, allowed us to email pictures and was very patient and professional from beginning to end.

3. How long have you been a Bates Customer and what was your first Bates product?

We bought our first sets in 2006: an Abigail Adams Bedspread with matching shams and a Heritage Coverlet with matching shams.  Since then we have purchased two more sets: the Queen Elizabeth Bedspread with shams as well as the Hampton Roads.

4. What is your favorite Bates product?

Our favorite is the Abigail although each one is unique.  We love the beauty and quality of the woven Matelassé Collections and the matching shams complete the look we were trying to achieve.  Ours is in the “Old Antique” color which is now called “Linen.”  It was one of the first ones we ordered in 2006.  The Abigail set on our arched canopy bed (which has a hand tied canopy) is absolutely beautiful together.  We were actually surprised that this set is almost 8 years old because it looks brand new.  Every time we make the beds, we admire the beauty and consider them to be heirlooms to be passed on!

Such a beautiful home and presentation of your lovely Bates bedspreads! I’m deciding which one to get, so your photos and story are quite helpful. Thank you.
